Excursion boards sell both trips side by side and rarely explain that they sail the same water. The Manavgat river cruise works the lower river — town, harbour mouth, the wide waterfall. The Green Canyon is the same river 25 km upstream, held behind the Oymapınar Dam as a mountain lake. The choice is really about landscape.
What each day looks like
The river cruise is a gentle lowland day: riverside restaurants, the famous falls (wide rather than tall, about five metres), bazaar time in town. The canyon is a mountain day: pine walls, deep still water, swimming in spring-fed freshness, and — on the classic tour — lunch on board in scenery that phones cannot quite believe.
The honest recommendation
First-time visitors who want drama choose the canyon; guests who want an easy stroll of a day, or who combine boats with shopping, choose the river. Doing both is not doubling up — they share water and nothing else. If you must pick one and scenery matters, upstream wins.
